Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any items you don't accept?
We only take seasonal items: clothing, shoes, and accessories (no housewares, electronics, or linens).
We do not take intimates, socks, sleepwear, or adult bathing suits (kids' are OK).
We DO take wedding dresses, and we do accept bridesmaid dresses as long as they are a versatile style (i.e. could be worn to a different event). Click here for more information about our bridal section!
We do not accept men's suits or sport coats. We DO accept men's tuxedos and other formal wear accessories. Click here for more information!
We also do not accept women's suits; however, we can split up blazers and skirts/pants and sell them separately.
We do take vintage clothing, but not dated styles eg. men's pleated pants, blazers or jackets with large shoulder pads, high-waisted or tapered jeans (although cool, vintage ones are OK) etc.
We also do not accept imitation designer items such as fake Coach bags.

I brought something to consign that was brand new/in perfect condition/still had the tags on, but you didn't accept it. Why?
There many reasons why we may choose not to accept something: we may have too much inventory in a particular section, or the item (though it may be new or in perfect condition) may not be a style that sells well.  We try to take items on consignment that we think will sell to our customer and fit into the aesthetic of the store.

What happens to my items if they don't sell within 90 days?
After the 90 day consignment period the items become property of the store. We go through our inventory frequently to clear out expired items and make room for new ones. The items that we clear out are donated to local charities. Some items remain in the store at a reduced price. If the items sell after the 90 day consignment period, the consignor does not receive credit for the items. If you would like your unsold items back, please contact us within the 90 days so that we can make arrangements to collect them at the end of the consignment period.

Where are the unsold items donated?

We donate to a number of local charities and social service organizations, including the Richmond Thrift Store & Food Shelf,  Shalom Shuk, Pathways, Vermont Cares, and the Howard Center.

Why don't you accept consignments on Mondays or Tuesdays?
Mondays and Tuesdays are our processing days for overflow from the weekend.  We also take care of administrative tasks on these days, so we are not available to accept appointments or consignments.

In your kids' section, do you accept gear as well as clothing?
No, we only accept children's clothing, shoes, and accessories. We also don't often accept basic pieces eg. cotton onesies, thin hats, socks, and tights (we occasionally make exceptions.)

Do you contact me when my items sell?
No, it is up to the consignor to check on the status of his/her consignment. As soon as your items sell, your money is available to you as cash/check or as store credit (consignment money is 10% more as store credit.)

Do you mail monthly or quarterly checks?
We don't mail checks on a regular basis. Generally, consignors pick up their money at the store. If you would like us to mail you a check, let us know and we will send you the amount minus the cost of postage.
